“The Gift” a giclee of an original watercolour by Sandi Lear, painted for The Gallipoli Memorial Art Prize. The painting was dedicated to all serving animals and humans, but especially in memory of my Great Uncle a Lighthorseman who served and survived both WW1 and WW2, my Grandfather who was shot and survived Mersuh in Egypt, and my father who served and survived the "forgotten" Korean War.
Although not selected as a finalist, this painting went viral on Facebook and resulted in thousands of requests for "prints". I do not do "prints", however, as alot of people who contacted me were serving military personnel and I have personal experience of PTSD, I agreed to produce a very limited Military and Public Edition of this work - no more than 50 of each. However, not wishing to "merchandise" my work, I felt a portion of the proceeds should be donated to help support those who give so selflessly.
I gratefully dedicate this work to all the animals, men, and women serving and no longer serving, whose daily sacrifices may go unacknowledged, but forge bonds of unbreakable mateship, and give the ultimate Gift.
