In Memory of Christopher John Carter

In Memory of Christopher John Carter

Thank you for your contribution to Soldier On in memory of our darling son Christopher John Carter.

An only child Christopher was born in Sydney (St. George Hospital) on 28th December 1978, he therefore was an ardent St. George fan, which was only changed to Go The Maroons for State of Origin when we lived on the Gold Coast in Queensland. He went to school at The Southport School, where, in between lessons, he sang, played violin and piano, coxed for the rowers, played hockey and learnt to sail. His love of sailing and the challenges it presents became a joy in his adult life.

One of the joys of his adult life was playing with local orchestras. He joined the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra when he left the Navy and thoroughly enjoyed his time with this great local orchestra. Another great joy was sailing on the waters around Sydney and was a member of the RANSA club at Double Bay. He recently sailed with the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club as they provided an outing for people involved with Soldier On.

He gained his degree at Griffith University and then decided he would join the Royal Australian Navy. Upon completion of his time at Recruit School he joined HMAS Warramunga’s commissioning crew as a CSO on her first overseas deployment to the North West Pacific. He then served on various Anzac Class Frigates to the Middle East, Rim Pac and various other deployments. He left the Navy as a Petty Officer CSS after 15 years of which more than 8 years was spent at sea on deployment.

He then worked at HMAS Watson as a Defence Contractor working in the Navy Synthetic Warfighting Centre (NSWC) providing a range of simulation planning, technical support and interaction with the RAN.

May He Rest in Peace

On behalf of the Schon Family, I am shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Christopher. I will always remember you as one of the closest mates I had in my late primary school years where you were a constant source of friendship and support. From my first day at TSS in 1988 where we sat together in class, to school camps and piano duets, we covered it all. We eventually went our separate ways and became seasoned men of the world and I will forever treasure the times we shared. Rest In Peace old mate and may the wind be forever at your back as you sail away for the last time across the horizon and onto a better place.
