I'm about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime / torture test.
A like minded bunch of lads are attempting a double crossing of the Simpson Desert on Motorcycles, starting and finishing in Birdsville Queensland. The round trip is to be completed in 5 days.
The event is first and foremost to raise awareness of the effects military life has on service men & women during and on their return to civilian life.
The Charity Frontline Safari have partnered with is Soldier On. www.soldieron.org.au
Soldier On is grounded in the bonds of friendship and a desire to better connect the community to the experiences of Australian service personnel and their families.
Since 1990, over 290,000 brave men and women have served our country in the Australian Defence Force. From wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to peacekeeping missions in East Timor, Bougainville, Cambodia, the Solomon Islands, Somalia and Rwanda, our veterans have undertaken extraordinary tasks in defence of our nation.
Soldier On, recognise that throughout these operations, the ADF and greater National Security Community have worked side by side. This is why they now also offer support to Australian Federal Police, Australian Border Force, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other security agencies.
Soldier On's aim is to help build resilient individuals capable of developing and expanding meaningful connection with family, community and employers.
As some of you may be aware, roughly 12 months ago I was diagnosed with a fairly rare form of cancer & told if untreated will not see my next Christmas. This was followed by rounds & rounds of radiation & chemotherapy. I'm happy to say the treatment was a success but has taken it's toll on the mind. I'm now going through my own strange form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), so can really empathize with the situation our veterans face.
I'm sure like my treatment I'll face a few challenges while crossing the 1136 sand dunes, but put into perspective nothing like challenges our veterans face daily.
Please support those that have put it all on the line, to give you & me a country to call home "Australia"
