My name is David Wyatt, I am a current serving member of the Australian Army and last year I was diagnosed with PTSD, stemming from service overseas.
This year I have become an authorised fundraiser for Soldier On, I'm taking my long service leave and am travelling around parts of Australia to raise these funds and awareness for military PTSD, while participating in the Australian Sleddog Sports Association season with my two Siberian Huskies, Banzai! and Lexus.
Sledding (similar to the sport seen in movies like Snow dogs, Eight below and Iron Will, except without the snow) helps me cope with my PTSD. While it's not for everyone, I have discovered that doing activities such as this can help PTSD sufferers, and their families, cope. And this is why I chose to fundraise for Soldier On. They provide sufferers access to activities to help them cope, as well as implementing as much help in all other areas as they possibly can. Although I have yet to require their services, being a serving member, I see how important their services are for those who do not have easy access to services like theirs.
I aim to raise $8000 and raise awareness of military PTSD throughout parts of QLD, NSW, ACT, and Northern VIC as I travel to compete with my fluffy friends.
